Laundry Room Makeover

We set a goal this year to paint the entire house.  So far all we have completed is the laundry room...

{Hmmm, only 1700 square feet left!}

This may not be a realistic goal at this point in the year, but hopefully it will motivate us to complete as much as possible.

In the laundry room, we decided to go with a smoky gray-blue color.  We also painted all the oak trim a semi-gloss white.

{Sorry the pictures are a little dark, but it seems to be raining non-stop this summer!}

Here's what it looked like before...

It definitely needed some color!

The thing that I hated the most in this room was the industrial style utility sink.  We have this same sink in our garage, but it really seemed out of place in the middle of our house!

Here are some after pictures...

We replaced the utility sink with a modern black vanity.

We took down the wire clothes rack and put up a shelf and added some vinyl lettering.

I found this rug at Target and love how the bright colors contrast with the whites and blues!

The room still looks a little stark, so I will probably be adding a few more decorations.  I can't decide what I want to put in the baskets yet!  I am looking for some bright towels or wash clothes, but haven't found anything yet.  I also want to add something to the glass jar.  I was thinking about etching on it, but I might just add vinyl.  Any suggestions?

I will post follow up pictures when I get it all finished...

  1. Great job. Looks fantastic! When i first moved into my house, the first room I painted was the laundry room. Because of it's size, it's not so overwhelming to start with, and when you are done, huge sense of accomplishment! Keep up the good work, excited to see the next project!

  2. I wish I had a pretty laundry room! Ours is just a corner of the basement! It looks great - I'm jealous!

    I'm stopping by from The Girl Creative. Have a great Monday!

  3. Love it !! the loads of fun lettering is adorable!!
    Trying to get mine painted this summer too.

  4. hi, I did a post 3 days ago with laundry rooms I loved... Like it so far.. love the color in the carpet

  5. I love the "load's of fun"... are you trying to convince yourself that this chore is fun? Using reverse psychology on yourself... maybe I should write it on my walls!

  6. Love the new look! Especially the wall color - it really adds to the room! Great job!

  7. Cute, cute, cute. That's all I have to say...other than I'm a wee bit jealous. :) Your creativity astounds me.

  8. That looks fantastic! I love the bright pop of color you introduced using the rug. And I'm such a sucker for vinyl lettering. Great job!

  9. I LOVE your laundry room! That new black vanity is beautiful, and the baskets compliment it so well. We've just started building and I can't wait to have a nice new laundry room. Sounds silly, doesn't it? :)

  10. I love your laundry room. I've seen so many great ones lately, I'm so inspired. I do love the greatness of the utility type laundry sinks (I miss the one from my old house) but if you have one in the garage I can see why you'd want to get rid of the one in here.

  11. I have that same sign in my laundry room. I love it! You did great! Thanks for sharing. Your blog is wonderful!

    Come join the fun..I am celebrating sweet treats on my blog with a giveaway!

    Have a great weekend!

  12. Great job on the laundry room and I just love the vinyl lettering in there and the rug is just adoreable! Now I want to work on my laundry room and make it fun too! ~ Laura

  13. I love the new look. Did you make the laundry sign yourself. It is really cute. I am slowly working on making over my laundry room. Been doing it for a few years. LOL

  14. I love your laundry room! I am hoping to get mine done soon, and I saved yours as inspiration in my file :) I wanted to mention that you can get vinyl that looks like etched glass if you visit your local sign shop, they should be able to hook you up! (My daddy is a sign man and I get their vinyl scraps super cheap!)
